Why we built Apexline the way we built it

Sam Reyes started Apexline in 2007 after eight years inside two Columbus-area dealerships and a national chain — watching the same pattern repeat: customers upsold on repairs they did not need, free OBD scans handed out at parts stores being treated as diagnostics, ASE-uncertified techs assigned to complex engine and transmission work, and warranty claims fought over instead of honored.

Apexline was built around three commitments: ASE-certified technicians on every job (Blue Seal Shop), written estimates before any work begins, and the NAPA AutoCare 24/24 nationwide warranty as the baseline floor — not an upsell. Those commitments have not changed in 19 years, and they are why our average customer is a multi-vehicle, multi-decade relationship.

How Apexline grew

18 years of growth in Greater Columbus, built entirely on referrals and repeat customers.

Founded on Karl Road

Sam Reyes launches Apexline with two ASE-certified techs and two service bays on Karl Road in north Columbus. Early focus is general repair on commuter vehicles in the I-71 corridor. First customers come from Westerville referrals.

ASE Blue Seal of Excellence

Apexline earns ASE Blue Seal Shop recognition — awarded to shops where 75%+ of techs are ASE-certified in specialty areas. Recertified annually since 2010. The credential becomes a primary differentiator versus chain quick-lube and dealer service.

NAPA AutoCare Center membership

Apexline joins NAPA AutoCare Center network (#OH-6294). The 24-month / 24,000-mile nationwide warranty becomes Apexline's baseline warranty offering — honored at 17,000+ NAPA shops across the US and Canada.

Franklin County E-Check authorization

Apexline becomes an authorized Ohio E-Check emissions inspection station for Franklin County. Adds OBD-II emissions readiness testing, drive-cycle support, and pre-inspection diagnostics to the service mix.

Diesel + fleet capability added

Apexline adds a dedicated diesel service bay and fleet coordinator. Within 18 months the company is servicing 25 commercial fleets across the metro — delivery vehicles, service trucks, contractor vans.

7,000-vehicle milestone

Cumulative vehicles serviced cross 7,000 across Franklin, Delaware, Licking, Fairfield, and Pickaway counties. Team grows to 12 ASE-certified techs across 8 service bays. First Columbus Monthly Best Of recognition.

Anna AI receptionist goes live

VantaWeb's Anna AI takes over inbound calls 24/7 — booking diagnostic appointments with year/make/model/OBD code captured, routing fleet calls to the coordinator, escalating flashing check-engine emergencies, and capturing after-hours stranded-vehicle calls. After-hours call capture goes from 34% to 99%. Average call-to-booking time drops from 11 minutes to under 3.

Part of this city, not just operating in it

Apexline has been on Karl Road long enough to remember when Westerville had farmland on Cleveland Avenue and Easton Mall did not exist. Being local is not a marketing line — it is where Sam coaches his kid's hockey team at the Chiller in Worthington and where Maria runs the Columbus Marathon every fall.

Community work is kept practical and repeatable, not performative.

Mid-Ohio Food Collective annual drive — Company-wide food drive every November. 2024 drive collected 2,050 lbs of non-perishables. Every tech participates and the company matches contributions.

Wheels of Hope vehicle repair — Quarterly pro bono diagnostic and repair days for the Wheels of Hope program — donating labor on vehicles being prepared for low-income families. 12 vehicles repaired in 2024.

COSI Career Day partner — Annual COSI Center of Science and Industry career day participation — Apexline techs demonstrate engine diagnostics, OBD-II scanning, and EV charging fundamentals to Columbus-area middle schoolers.

Columbus State auto tech apprenticeship — Three paid apprenticeship slots per year in partnership with the Automotive Technology program at Columbus State Community College. Four current techs came through this pipeline.
