Why we built Brushline the way we built it
Sam Reyes started Brushline in 2009 after eight years inside a regional painting franchise — watching the same pattern repeat: customers pressured into colors they did not love, exterior jobs scheduled regardless of weather forecast, pre-1978 homes painted by uncertified crews, and warranty calls returned by whoever happened to be free that day.
Brushline was built around three commitments: free color consultation with test patches on every whole-house interior, weather-window scheduling with auto-reschedule on every exterior job, and EPA Lead-Safe Certified Firm status on every pre-1978 project. Those commitments have not changed in 17 years, and they are why our average customer is a multi-decade referral — and why we have not had a color-related repaint request above 3% of jobs.

Sam earns NC General Contractor License #79143 (Limited Specialty - Painting). Required for any project over $30,000 — opens up whole-house exterior jobs and full-home renovations.
Sherwin-Williams Premier Painter status
Brushline earns Sherwin-Williams' Premier Painter designation after meeting product training, customer satisfaction, and volume thresholds. The credential unlocks SW's 10-year manufacturer finish warranty on Duration and Emerald installations.
Cabinet refinishing line launched
Brushline adds dedicated cabinet refinishing with off-site spray facility, Benjamin Moore Advance and SW Emerald Urethane on rotation. Within 18 months cabinet refinishing represents 22% of total revenue.
5,000-home milestone
Cumulative customers cross 5,000 across Wake and Johnston counties. Team grows to 18 full-time painters across four crews. First Triangle Business Journal Best Of recognition.

Habitat for Humanity Wake County partner — Free interior paint on two Habitat for Humanity homes per year across Wake County. Donated materials sourced from Sherwin-Williams overage programs.
Inter-Faith Food Shuttle annual drive — Company-wide food drive every November. 2024 drive collected 1,900 lbs of non-perishables. Every painter participates and the company matches contributions.
Raleigh Boys & Girls Club mural sponsor — Annual donation of paint and labor for one community-selected mural project per year — most recently the Boys & Girls Club gym in Garner.
Wake Tech apprenticeship program — Three paid apprenticeship slots per year in partnership with the Wake Technical Community College Construction Trades program. Four current painters came through this pipeline.
