Founded in Five Points
Sam Reyes launches Brushline with two painters and one van out of a shop in Five Points. Early focus is interior residential repaints. First customers come from North Hills neighborhood referrals.
About Brushline Painting & Coatings
Founded in 2009, Brushline has painted over 5,200 Triangle homes with Sherwin-Williams Premier and Benjamin Moore products, EPA Lead-Safe certification, included color consultations, and weather-window scheduling on every exterior.
Sam Reyes started Brushline in 2009 after eight years inside a regional painting franchise — watching the same pattern repeat: customers pressured into colors they did not love, exterior jobs scheduled regardless of weather forecast, pre-1978 homes painted by uncertified crews, and warranty calls returned by whoever happened to be free that day.
Brushline was built around three commitments: free color consultation with test patches on every whole-house interior, weather-window scheduling with auto-reschedule on every exterior job, and EPA Lead-Safe Certified Firm status on every pre-1978 project. Those commitments have not changed in 17 years, and they are why our average customer is a multi-decade referral — and why we have not had a color-related repaint request above 3% of jobs.
18 years of growth in Greater Raleigh-Durham, built entirely on referrals and repeat customers.

Brushline earns EPA Lead-Safe Firm certification (NAT-F120847), required for any work disturbing more than 6 sq ft of paint in pre-1978 homes. Most Raleigh-area homes built before 1978 are in Five Points, Hayes Barton, and Cameron Park.
Sam earns NC General Contractor License #79143 (Limited Specialty - Painting). Required for any project over $30,000 — opens up whole-house exterior jobs and full-home renovations.
Brushline earns Sherwin-Williams' Premier Painter designation after meeting product training, customer satisfaction, and volume thresholds. The credential unlocks SW's 10-year manufacturer finish warranty on Duration and Emerald installations.
Brushline adds dedicated cabinet refinishing with off-site spray facility, Benjamin Moore Advance and SW Emerald Urethane on rotation. Within 18 months cabinet refinishing represents 22% of total revenue.
Cumulative customers cross 5,000 across Wake and Johnston counties. Team grows to 18 full-time painters across four crews. First Triangle Business Journal Best Of recognition.
VantaWeb's Anna AI takes over inbound calls 24/7 — booking color consultations, capturing project scope, flagging pre-1978 homes for RRP-certified crew assignment, and routing exterior inquiries to the weather-window scheduling team. After-hours call capture goes from 32% to 99%. Color consultation conversion to whole-house project climbs to 71%.
Brushline has been on Raleigh ladders long enough to remember when North Hills was a strip mall and Five Points was a quiet streetcar suburb. Being local is not a marketing line — it is where Sam coaches Little League at Pullen Park on Saturdays and where Maria runs the Tobacco Road Half Marathon every spring.
Community work is kept practical and repeatable, not performative.
Habitat for Humanity Wake County partner — Free interior paint on two Habitat for Humanity homes per year across Wake County. Donated materials sourced from Sherwin-Williams overage programs.
Inter-Faith Food Shuttle annual drive — Company-wide food drive every November. 2024 drive collected 1,900 lbs of non-perishables. Every painter participates and the company matches contributions.
Raleigh Boys & Girls Club mural sponsor — Annual donation of paint and labor for one community-selected mural project per year — most recently the Boys & Girls Club gym in Garner.
Wake Tech apprenticeship program — Three paid apprenticeship slots per year in partnership with the Wake Technical Community College Construction Trades program. Four current painters came through this pipeline.

20 years in residential painting, the last 17 as founder of Brushline. Sam started the company in 2009 after eight years working for a regional painting franchise — watching customers get pressured into colors they did not love, exterior jobs scheduled regardless of weather forecast, and pre-1978 homes painted without lead-safe certification. He built Brushline around three commitments: color consultation included on every whole-house interior, weather-window scheduling on every exterior, and EPA RRP certification on every job in a pre-1978 home. Based in Five Points.
13 years in painting operations, joining Brushline in 2014 after managing dispatch for a national restoration company. Maria oversees crew scheduling, weather-window monitoring, PaintScout integration, and the color consultation booking workflow. She introduced the auto-reschedule policy that has prevented every weather-related warranty claim Brushline would have otherwise received. Lives in Cary.
15 years on Triangle interiors, the last 9 with Brushline. Chris leads the estimating team and trains every new painter on color theory, lighting assessment, and the test-patch process that has kept Brushline's color-related re-paint requests under 3%. Based in Morrisville.
Every technician is a direct employee. Contractor licenses are verifiable at nclbgc.org.
