Cabinet refinishing in the Triangle — factory-grade finish, spray application, 1-year warranty

Cabinet refinishing is the highest-margin service in residential painting — labor-intensive, skill-sensitive, and commanding $2,500-$12,000+ for a full kitchen. Unlike painting flat walls, cabinet work requires spray application (brush strokes on cabinet faces are a warranty call-back), proper deglosser application, and film-build control.

The right product matters enormously. Benjamin Moore Advance and Sherwin-Williams Emerald Urethane Enamel are industry-standard for painted cabinetry — both are waterborne alkyds with the durability of oil and the cleanup of latex. Conversion varnish is the premium option for durability comparable to factory finishes, with a longer cure time.

Process: every door is removed, labeled, and sprayed in our off-site finishing booth where conditions are dust-free and temperature-controlled. Boxes are sprayed in place with full containment. Hardware is removed and reinstalled (or upgraded to your selected handles). The result looks factory-new, not painted.

Cabinet & Trim Refinishing — common questions

How long does cabinet refinishing take?
3-5 days total: 1 day for removal and on-site box prep, 2-3 days for off-site door spray and cure, 1 day for reinstall and final touch-up. You can use your kitchen during the prep and reinstall days; only the doors are off-site.
Will the paint hold up to daily kitchen use?
Benjamin Moore Advance and Sherwin-Williams Emerald Urethane are specifically formulated for cabinets — they cure to a hard, washable, food-prep-safe surface. With normal use and care, the finish lasts 8-15 years before needing refresh. Conversion varnish (premium upgrade) approaches 20+ year durability.
Can you change cabinet color from dark to light?
Yes. Most dark-to-light transitions (oak to white, cherry to gray) require an extra primer coat and sometimes a stain-blocking primer for heavily-stained wood. We assess at the estimate and include the right primer in the quote.
Do you replace doors and boxes, or just refinish?
We refinish existing cabinets — meaning we keep your existing door and box hardware. If you want new doors (e.g., switching from oak-grain to slab shaker style), we coordinate with a door supplier. Box refinishing alone is also available if you are replacing doors yourself.
